Nocturne Sans
Nocturne Sans is a contemporary grotesque typeface designed in 2025 as a natural extension of Nocturne Serif, which was created in 2016 under the Warszawskie Kroje project. The original concept drew inspiration from the plaques commemorating Warsaw’s World War II battle and martyrdom sites, designed in 1949 by Karol Tchorek. Nocturne Sans continues this narrative, translating the historical and emotional depth of its serif predecessor into a clean, modern form.
Whereas Nocturne Serif channels Renaissance proportions and calligraphic flair, Nocturne Sans translates that same spirit into a sharper, more minimal form. It blends geometric precision with humanist warmth, reflecting the layered identity of Warsaw—a city shaped by multiple cultures and design languages.
Developed under the direction of Mateusz Machalski, with contributions from Karol Mularczyk, Małgorzata Bartosik, and Borys Kosmynka, Nocturne Sans brings clarity and character to both editorial and branding contexts. It is a modern grotesque with historical depth—engineered to perform in diverse typographic environments.
