Petar
Petar is inspired by the lettering I revisit every year on the Petar Hektorović ferry operated by Jadrolinija. The typography used in wayfinding is simple, technical, and entirely driven by function and ease of reproduction with stencils. These are letters made without aesthetic ambition, yet carrying a very distinct character. This starting point was remixed through the lens of the island of Vis, a place marked by its military past, where typography served as a tool: fast, sharp, direct, often even “brutal” in its form. In this project, I kept that raw, uncompromising quality, translating it into a contemporary language. The typeface can be described as monospace, built on a grid and shaped by pronounced stencil cuts that define its rhythm and functional tone. At the same time, the system is expanded with a set of alternate characters, allowing transitions from a more disciplined, technical expression to more expressive variations. The family consists of 5 weights, enabling a dynamic balance between order and controlled disintegration of form.
